What does lunch mean to you?
Lunch is the best meal of the day. Lunch is the better version of breakfast and the warmup to dinner. In my opinion it's always best to go with the unch in brunch. Lunch allows me to put all of my favorite foods between two pieces of bread without anyone judging me...more than they usually do at least.
In your experience, what does it take to win lunch?
Good lighting is key. I've had many lunches not do as well as I expected because my picture was too dark, or overexposed with gross fluorescent lighting. It's come to the point where if I'm eating with a group (especially with fellow Lunchers) we fight over the seat that we think will have the best lighting to capture our masterpieces.
We heard you're moving to Australia. Is it because the lunches are better there?
I wouldn't say better, but they are different. I'm definitely going to miss all the Mexican food and queso here, but I know there'll be plenty of shrimp waiting for me on the barbie down under!
Which one of your lunch wins are you most proud of and why?
I'm proudest of my steamed pork, chicken, shrimp, and veggies with egg noodles pho I got on 10/16/15. This was my first ever national victory which felt like an eternity to accomplish (so many great Lunchers out there). It also remains my winningest lunch to date with a 100% vote for my timezone and then 85% nationally. I'm very very proud of that lunch.
Which one of your lunches do you think got robbed from winning a National title, and why?
I felt like I got robbed on my lunch on 1/15/16. I've consumed a minimum of 1000 cheeseburgers in my lifetime and this was easily in the top 2 or 3 best I've ever had. The chorizo/beef patty was so juicy and delicious and then the combo of cheddar, chipotle ranch, guacamole, onion straws, and jalapenos on a brioche bun just brought it all together. Not to mention I was sitting next to THE LUNCH LEGEND himself, Stephen Dalton, and I beat him head-to-head. I felt like that accomplishment alone should have earned me national honors, but I didn't even with the timezone that day....major let down indeed! Must have been the lighting - see question 2.
What's your favorite new lunch spot?
Pub 10 in Norcross, GA. It's right near where I work and of course I discovered it my last week in the office. I went twice this week and both times was very impressed with my meals (as evidenced by my ordering two entrees both times, and being a big fatty and eating it all both times) and I actually won nationals twice in three days! It's a shame I had to leave such a promising new establishment behind...
Onion rings or tots?
Onion rings all day everyday. There's something about a beer battered onion ring that holds a special place in my heart that you just can't beat.
Which presidential candidate do you think eats the best lunches?
I would think that Marco Rubio has the best lunches. He's Cuban and from Miami, that's a recipe for deliciousness if you ask me. Love me a good Cuban sammy. However, before he dropped out of the race I feel like Chris Christie was the clear front runner. All of this based solely on assumed lunching habits and not political affiliation.
If you could lunch with one person, past or present, who would that be, and what would you order?
If I could have lunch with anyone, it would be with Benjamin Buford "Bubba" Blue and we would indulge in the biggest shrimp feast on record. We'd have BBQ, boiled, broiled, baked, and sauteed shrimp. There'd be shrimp kabobs, shrimp creole, and shrimp gumbo. Pan fried, deep fried, and stir-fried shrimp. Then don't forget there's also pineapple shrimp, lemon, coconut, and pepper shrimp. Shrimp soup, shrimp stew, shrimp salad, shrimp and potatoes, shrimp and grits, shrimp burger, and shrimp sandwiches. That, that's about it.
